Dear BUSD Community:
I hope that you are looking forward to a restful winter break. The holidays are a time of coming together, love, and joy. Yet as we prepare for gathering with friends and families and welcoming in the new year, we also know members of our school community are concerned about recent statements regarding deportation efforts post the presidential inauguration.
Թϱ Unified takes pride in our diversity and our commitment to provide every student with schools and classrooms that are safe, welcoming, and humanizing. BUSD rejects all discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity and expression, immigration status, disability and sexual orientation. This communication is a follow up to the November 20, 2024 community message and focuses on how we support our immigrant families and undocumented students.
Our expresses our commitment to protecting the right of every student to attend our public schools, regardless of their immigration status or the immigration status of their family. Earlier this week, I shared this policy with all BUSD staff and provided specific instructions to school administrators about how to respond to any request from immigration officers.
BUSD has a Resources for Immigrant Families webpage that is available in both English and Spanish. This page, which we continue to update, provides valuable resources, including family preparedness plans, legal resources, and information on understanding your rights The page also includes helpful tips like the one below. I encourage you to visit the Resources for Immigrant Families webpage, which we will continue to update, regularly.
 Families and students are encouraged to know their emergency phone numbers and where to find important documentation, which will allow you to be prepared in the event of an emergency.

Estimada Comunidad en BUSD:
Espero que estén deseando disfrutar de un tranquilo descanso de invierno. Los descansos son una época de unión, amor y alegría. Sin embargo, mientras nos preparamos para reunirnos con amigos y familias y dar la bienvenida al nuevo año, también sabemos que los miembros de nuestra comunidad escolar están preocupados por las recientes declaraciones referentes a los esfuerzos de deportación después de la inauguración presidencial.
Թϱ Unified se enorgullece de nuestra diversidad y de nuestro compromiso de proporcionar a cada estudiante escuelas y salones de clase que sean seguros, acogedores y humanizadores. BUSD rechaza toda discriminación basada en raza, etnicidad, religión, género, identidad y expresión de género, estatus migratorio, discapacidad y orientación sexual. Esta comunicación es un seguimiento del mensaje a la comunidad del 20 de noviembre, 2024 y se centra en cómo apoyamos a nuestras familias inmigrantes y estudiantes indocumentados.
Nuestra expresa nuestro compromiso de proteger el derecho de cada estudiante a asistir a nuestras escuelas públicas, independientemente de su estatus migratorio o el estatus migratorio de su familia. A principios de esta semana, compartí esta política con todo el personal de BUSD y proporcioné instrucciones específicas a los administradores escolares acerca de cómo responder a cualquier solicitud de los funcionarios de inmigración.
